The OliveGROW project aims to develop a reliable and user-friendly Information System that incorporates the principles and methods of Precision Agriculture, leveraging modern technologies to improve both the quality and quantity of olive cultivation.

To maximize the effectiveness of the system, the varying spatial and temporal needs of olive cultivation will be taken into account, while evaluating the impact of a range of factors that influence the quality and yield of both olives and olive oil. In addition, the project includes the development of a precision irrigation model specifically designed for olive cultivation.

The OliveGROW Information System will initially be piloted in two agricultural cooperatives in Crete equipped with modern technological infrastructure. Its key innovation lies in the fact that it is designed primarily for producer groups and agricultural cooperatives, enabling them to use the system as a strategic management tool to achieve their long-term objectives.

Project Objectives

• Upon completion of the project, olive growers will have access to practical tools and scientific knowledge that will enable them to: Apply best practices to maximize production. Improve the sustainable and efficient management of their olive groves.
• Increase the competitiveness of their cultivation.
• The project is also expected to generate significant benefits for both the agricultural and industrial sectors involved in olive production, including: Increased competitiveness. Higher productivity. Enhanced export potential. Creation of new employment opportunities.
• Furthermore, the application of Precision Agriculture techniques for the production of high-quality olive oil with enhanced organoleptic characteristics will strengthen consumer confidence in the food supply chain while contributing positively to public health.
• Finally, the project promotes the development of an integrated, multi-factor management system, enabling the targeted and efficient use of agricultural inputs while simultaneously reducing their environmental impact.
